  • Kollam Festivals

    Kadakkal: Kadakkal in Kollam is known for Kadakkal Devi Kshetram Kadakkaldevi temple comes alive during Thiruvathira festival held in March, and is one of the prime festivals of the region. The temple festivities attract large crowds from various parts of the state. Kadakkal amma or goddess is considered as a very powerful deity.

    Jatayupara: Jatayupara is a huge rock at Chadayamangalam. Legend goes that the name Jatayupara is from the mythical bird Jatayu in the epic Ramayana, who is believed to have collapsed on the rock after failing in his attempts to thwart Ravana's kidnapping of Sita. The Crafts Festival is held annually during December-January, featuring the work of craftsmen from all over the country.

Thangasseri was once a favourite settlement of the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English in succession, as Kollam was one of the oldest and most important port for international cashew trade on the Malabar coast. Today, it showcases a few ruined forts built by the Portuguese, and the Dutch and some 18th century churches.

    Kottarakkara Kathakali Museum: Kottarakkara Thamburan Kathakali Museum is the memorial of Kottarakkara Thamburan (King) the father of the Kathakali. Exhibited here are various models of Kathakali, Kathakali classes and ornaments, rare musical instruments, sculptures etc.
