Pattaya is a city in Thailand, located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand about 165 km southeast of Bangkok. The city of Pattaya is a self governing special municipal area which covers the whole tambon Nong Prue and Na Kluea and parts of Huai Yai and Nong Pla Lai. It is located in the heavily industrial eastern . Pattaya is second only to Bangkok in high rise buildings, as many condos for foreign residents are built, and has a modest skyline. Pattaya is popular  as a beach resort and for its entertainment, nightlife and shopping, but also for the broad selection of pastimes it caters for, from golf and horseback riding to bungee jumping, karting and shooting. Pattaya is also very popular as a conference, convention and seminar venue, and the grapevine hosts rumours of future developments of varying degrees of plausibility, such as a horse racing track, casinos, and a tram system.

  • How to get there:

    Pattaya is about 1½ hours, or 120 km by road from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Pattaya is also served through U-Tapao International Airport Pattaya  which is 45 minutes drive from the city. 

  • When to visit:

    November - April is the best to visit Pattaya.

  • Orientation:

    The three major east-west aligned roads: North Pattaya Road (Thanon Pattaya Nua), Central Pattaya Road (Thanon Pattaya Klang) and South Pattaya Road (Thanon Pattaya Tai). Beach road south of south Pattaya road is closed to vehicles in the evenings is called Walking Street, it's the main tourist area, both for nightlife and shopping. At the southern end of walking street is the New Pier, usually called Bali Hai Pier (sometimes "Pattaya Pier" or "South Pier").

  • By Road:

    Buses to Pattaya leave very frequently from Bangkok’s northern bus terminal (Morchid) and the eastern bus terminal (Ekhamai). There are buses from Pattaya which go to every nearby provincial town. There are also some buses available to major towns in the north-east.

  • By Rail:

    There is one train a day to Pattaya leaving from Hualumphong Station in Bangkok.

  • By Air:

    Bangkok Airways  operates daily flights between Pattaya and Koh Samui.

  • Monuments:

    Sanctuary of Truth: This gigantic wooden structure is situated by the sea at Laem Ratchawet, North Pattaya. The sanctuary of Truth was first built in 1981. With exquisite architectural features, the building was conceived out of the vision that human civilisation has been achieved and nurtured by religious and philosophical truth.

    Mini Siam: Mini Siam is one of famous model villages in the world. It celebrates the heritages of Thailand with miniature replicas of the most famous monuments and historical sites including the Temple of the emerald Buddha, democracy monument, bridge over the River Kwai, Prasat Hin Phimai etc. Miniature replicas of the Tower Bridge of London, Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and Trevi Fountain are also displayed in the section called “mini world”.

    Koh Larn: It is a little tropical island located about 7km off the coast of Pattaya Beach. The Island is around 4km long and 2km wide and is home to approximately one thousand residents. Most of the locals reside in the main village, Naban. There are six beaches on the island that has white sand and clear blue water. The terrain is mainly mountainous which is covered in most part with jungle.

    Cabaret Shows: There are two venues of transvestite cabarets in Pattaya alcazar cabaret and tiffany show.

    Ko Krok: The island comprises mostly rocks. Only one sandy-beach on the east of the island is Ko Krok beach which is only 100 meters in lenght. This is an ideal place tor coral viewing.

    Ko Sak: Ko Sak is another small island shaped like a horse shoe with an area of 0.05 square kilometers. It has two beaches, one on the northern cover 250 meters in length, an area in which boats usually stop for tourists to swim and another one on the southern part of the island opposite the first island

    Pattaya Beach: Pattaya Beach is situated alongside the city centre, close to shopping, hotels and bars.

    Jomtien Beach: Jomtien Beach  is divided from the main part of Pattaya by Pratumnak hill, just south of the city.

  • Kidding around:

    Sriracha Tiger Zoo: It is a zoo in Pattaya, a city in the chonburi province of Thailand, the zoo claims a population of 200 tigers and around 100,000 crocodiles.

    Underwater World: It is an aquarium where there is a collection of marine species in the Gulf of Thailand. The aquarium is home to a multitude of local marine life, including sharks and stingrays.

    Elephant Village: Situated on Pornprapanimitr road on the same directions as Phanaraks park and Siam country club Golf course. The elephant village is a popular tourist spot for Thai and foreign guests alike. Daily performances by elephants and wild elephant round-up's.

    Siriporn Orchid Farm : The farm offers a wide array of orchids such as catteleyas, vandas, daedrovium, escosanda, pompadours. Visitors can also purchase cut flowers or plants.

    The Million-Year Stone Park and Crocodile Farm : Its grounds are landscaped with flowering and rock gardens. Hundreds of crocodiles as well as some rare animals, including albino bears and horses, are kept. There are crocodile shows, magic performances and animal shows.

     Practise how to use all forms of diving gear.
     Make sure you are fit, sleep well and take no alcohol.
     Wear your life jacket before snorkelling.
     Collect underwater garbage to be discarded on the shore.
      Be accompanied when going fishing in case of emergency.
     Study the route as well as information about the places to be visited.
