  • Katra Geography and Climate

    Situated at a height of only 300 metres, Katra, Jammu has the three-season weather typical of the Indian plains. The best time of year in Katra, Jammu is the cool season from early October to about February-March. In October, immediately after the monsoon finishes, the weather will be cool and fresh, the skies clear and dust free. Later in the cool season, December and January in particular, it can get quite crisp with temperatures as low as 50 C at night.

    In February-March the temperature starts to climb as you enter the hot season. By April, May and June it gets uncomfortably hot and dry. Since there has been no rain for some time the air is very dusty and the temperature scarcely seems to drop at night. Towards the end of the hot season the mercury sill sit at 400 C or above for days on end. Finally, the monsoon arrives around the beginning of July; the dust is immediately cleared out of the air although for some time the temperature change is merely from hot and dry to hot and sticky.

  • How to reach Katra by Road

    Katra is well connected by road from Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and the rest of India. A mix of National Highways and well maintained state roads really make your journey smooth and comfortable.

  • How to reach Katra by Rail

    Jammu is a major junction of Northern railways. It serves as gateway to the whole Kashmir valley besides those going to Katra. Jammu is well connected to all the major metropolitan cites of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune etc. once you reach the Jammu station there is enough option in the form of buses and private cars to take you through to Katra. Buses ply every 10 minutes between Jammu and Katra. Jammu Bus stand is hardly around 3kms from the Jammu Tawi station and there are enough minibuses and other forms of transport to take you there. Luxury coaches of JKSRTC and J&KTDC along with scores of private buses are avaialble at the bus stand take you to Katra. You can also take taxi directly from Jammu and reach Katra and then return by the same taxi.

    The nearest airport to Katra is the Jammu airport known as the Satwari. It is located approximately 8 kms from city centre and takes around 35 minutes to reach from there.
